94 Owen Bargreen, USA, December 2024
The 2022 Southern Right Pinotage delivers smoky minerals on the nose alongside wild blackberry and shades of peat moss on the nose. The palate is dense, chewy and full of finesse. Heady red and dark fruits greet you on the palate alongside the beautiful veil of tension. Showing outstanding weight and length, enjoy this beauty now and over the next ten plus years.
94 The Tasting Panel, Jul/Aug 2025
Hemel-en-Aarde, formerly known as Walker Bay, is a relatively new appellation, just implemented in 2006. Walker Bay has been elevated to District status. The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is close to the cool Atlantic coast. A touch of smoke, blackberry, and plum bathe the palate. Spiced cedar offers texture, with radiating back notes of roast coffee and cinnamon spice. The aromas linger as long as the satin-lined finish.
92 Tim Atkin MW South Africa 2023 Report
Southern Right is now a blend of Walker Bay and 30% Swartland grapes, a change that has given the wine more concentration and tannic backbone. Curated in 14% new wood, this is sappy, savoury and floral, with bramble and black cherry fruit and perfume to spare.
91 Wine Spectator, Alison Napjus, February 2025
A vibrant red, with a core of ripe mulberry, raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Light, supple tannins and lively acidity provide fine definition for the medium-bodied frame, and notes of violet, thyme, anise and iron linger on the finish.
90 Wine Enthusiast, Jesica Vargas, September 2024
The nose of this wine is subtle, but the palate is generous. It has aromas of peppercorn and berries and flavors of blackcurrant and other dark fruit. Excellent acidity and fine tannins provide energy and structure to this lively red.
Red Wagon Rochester, August 2024
You guys are doing amazing work. The Southern Right and Ashbourne Pinotage wines brought me back to the category after I had all but given up on that grape. Now I love it, and that is largely due to what you have done ... cheers to you!
Joanna Simon, The Festive Red Wine Guide 2025, December 2025
The 2022 is heady with raspberries sprinkled with vanilla, nutmeg and smoky liquorice and elegantly framed by suave tannins and fine acidity.
